Mid-Century
Revival
Cameron House, the iconic building on the corner of Brunswick and Ann St in thriving Fortitude Valley, has recently undergone a refurbishment that both brings it into the now while giving a nod to the building’s mid-century heritage. This stage of the project focussed on common areas such as Lobbies, Central Stair, and Amenities and was completed on a very modest budget. Boynton Rossi cleverly used colour, texture, artwork and furniture to revive this tired building, highlight the unique architectural qualities of the common areas and imbue personality that reflects the era, style and location of the building.
Peeling back the layers of many past refurbishments, we allowed the architecturally unique concrete stair to shine in striking Resene Tarzan contrasted by new signage which popped in acid yellow Resene Alo Alo.
Timber panelling and handrails were lovingly restored and Polyflor Provence Oak Prisma vinyl added texture and character to the lobby floors.
Referencing Mid-Century icons in the artwork and the finishes, we highlighted the use of existing and new terrazzo floors and subway tiling, pairing colour and artwork to bring these features to life and differentiate between floors.
New lobby entry points to the tenancies enhance the warehouse feel while bringing natural light into the lobby spaces. Rockcote German Schmear render to exposed brickwork highlights the inherent fabric of the building whilst creating texture and interest to industrial workplace spaces.
The ground floor amenities were a complete transformation suitable to withstand any Valley crowd; executed by bringing all the elements of the building fabric together to suit an exciting new hospitality venue on street level which is set to open soon.
